Short Creek’s Deliverance Handbook
Intimacy with Jesus
In our Charismatic and Pentecostal Circles, some in the American Church have erred in seeking experiences, healing, prophetic words, deliverance, miracles, and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. We get so caught up in what Gift we have and what Five-Fold ministry position we are called to that we forget that it is only through intimacy with Jesus the Christ that these Gifts flow.
If ministry isn’t flowing from a passion for serving our Lord and Savior, it is our ministry and not His.
I’m often taken aback when I hear people refer to churches and ministries as deliverance, addiction, foodbank ministries, etc. Aren’t we called to continue the work of Jesus the Christ? Aren’t we called to partner with Him by way of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit? Didn’t Jesus tell us, His Bride, the Body of Christ, the Called Out Assembly, that we would do greater works? So why wouldn’t everything we, as His Church, do be encompassed as His continued ministry? Didn’t Jesus cast out demons, feed the hungry, have a heart for the poor, pray for the sick and see them healed, and preach repentance unto Salvation? The point is deliverance and addiction should never be a ministry unto themselves; it should simply be a vital part of Christ’s continued ministry.
Ephesians 2:20-21 (NLT) Together, we are His house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in Him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.
Christ CENTERED Keys to Success In Ministry.
- Passion for Intimacy with Jesus the Christ.
- Be Broken, CRUSHED, and embrace the suffering of Christ.
- Live a Life of Repentance – Heart Posture is key, meaning be humble, be correctable, and submit to local church authority.
- If you are not submitted to the authority of local church elders, you are not submitted to the Lord.
- Forgive others quickly and often.
- The ones that hurt you the most should always be at the top of your daily prayer list.
- Serve - serving requires humility.
- Have a personal devotional life.
- Be consistent in giving, prayer, and fasting.
- Crucify our flesh.
- Integrity.
- Speak the truth in love.
- Support your local church with your time and your resources.
- Pay Tithes and Give Offerings.
- Be Intentional in connecting with people.
- Balance
- If you have a family, ministry starts at home.
Acts
We see multiple times in the Gospels where it says Jesus looked upon the crowds, and He was moved with compassion, seeing their condition as sheep without a shepherd. What do Shepherds in the Kingdom of God do? They guide and protect the sheep. They guide them through their journey of freedom and protect them against their enemy.
We see local churches often associated primarily with a specific aspect of shepherding (ministry). That church is an addiction ministry church. This church is a deliverance ministry church. They sow into missions, have a food bank, have a great discipleship program for new believers, or promote biblical counseling. But aren’t all these vital aspects of the Gospel, and essential parts of truly pastoring?
The Deliverance Aspect of the Gospel is Christ-Centered Compassion. If it is about social media clout, seeing demons manifest, drawing a crowd, or promoting your ministry, you need to STOP, find an altar, and repent.
The ENTIRE Gospel is the proclamation that through the Sacrifice of Christ,
we can be Saved, Delivered, and Healed!
Actual Spiritual Warfare
We are called to fervently confront the darkness, to go into the enemy’s camp with the Gospel and preach the Gospel of Salvation – Salvation, Deliverance, and Emotional and Physical Healing.
Matthew 1:21 (NASB) She will give birth to a Son; and you shall name Him Jesus, for He Will Save His people from their sins.”
Will Save – the Greek Word here is Sozo, meaning Saved, Delivered, and Healed.
If you have been in the addiction ministry for any amount of time, you fully understand the idea of the process. We deal with society’s most broken, most hopeless, and most demonically influenced people in our communities. The idea that we can lead them in a 20-second prayer or even intercede with them for hours in personal prayer and all their junk, all their bad ways of thinking, just being instantly renewed, is just bad and a very dangerous doctrine. Discipleship, Recovery, Sanctification, Inner Healing, Laying Aside the Weight and the Sin is a process that takes time, intercession, compassionate counseling, and just good old-fashioned hard work.
I say this to make sure everyone understands that leading those who have struggled with addiction in deliverance is an intense labor, something you need to be committed to seeing them through.
Matthew 9:21 (NASB) for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His cloak, I will get well (Sozo).”
The lady with the issue of blood speaks to the process. The first step to freedom is desperation. Desperation on the part of the person afflicted and desperation on the part of the shepherd. Prayer is a vital aspect of deliverance, but that’s not all there is. Like the lady with the issue of blood, the shepherd must be committed to the process, like an attorney digging for evidence; with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we must help the demonized person peel back the layers of trauma, abuse, rejection, neglect, and abandonment to determine the root cause of the demonization.
Three Ways Deliverance Happens
Mass Deliverance
Mass deliverance is a very interesting experience, but it typically only opens the person up to the understanding that they are demonized under the influence of a demon or multiple demons. Mass deliverance typically happens as someone leads the congregation in a corporal prayer.
First, a prayer of authority needs to take place, informing our adversary that we, as the Body of Christ, stand firmly on the authority given to us in Matthew 16:13-19. Darkness, satan, and his minions need to know that they are our enemies and not our friends.
Second, forgiveness needs to be proclaimed. Some propose that we, as God’s image-bearers, have the ability to create whatever we desire with our words. This is simply a form of witchcraft, a New Age belief of manifesting. Now, our words are powerful; the power of life and death accompanies our words as we allow our thoughts to be spoken.
Proverbs 18:20-21 (NASB) A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Our words don’t create, they simply cultivate the Word of God in our lives, either blessings or curses. As we speak, we decide. Proclaiming forgiveness, praying forgiveness for the individuals we are struggling to forgive “Out Loud” by the Grace of God, and in the Mighty Name of Jesus, “THE” Christ cultivates a heart change towards the person who has rejected, abandoned, abused, belittled, bullied, and devastatingly hurt and damaged us. And by the Grace of God, forgiveness happens, and the legal right the enemy had through unforgiveness is eradicated.
Third, sins need to be repented of and renounced, canceling the legal right the enemy had to
Our Enemy
We have more Christian books on Spiritual Warfare than any other Biblical book I know of. Still, most of them talk little about who the enemy is, their ability to influence Christians, and how to deal with them when they gain a foothold in a believer’s life.
Matthew 16:17-19 (NASB) And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades (Hell) will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”
Gates of Hell will not prevail – Gates are not for offense. They are built to keep people, in the context of this scripture, the Church out of the Kingdom of Darkness’s territory. On the other side of this gate, we find, as recorded in the Book of Joel, “Multitudes, Multitudes in the valley of decisions!” The souls of countless people, saved and unsaved, who are tormented and afflicted by demons.
Upon this Rock, I will build My Church – The Rock is the revelation of who Jesus is. He is our Lord, Savior, Redeemer, Reconciler, Sanctifier, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And He, Jesus the Christ, is the only way to reconcile with the Father and have eternal life.
Church – ekklēsia – an assembly of Christians gathered for worship in a religious meeting.
I find it interesting when someone tells me they don’t have to go to church, that they are the church. The Church is a living organism, a called-out, organized group of individuals who carry out the Heavenly Father’s Kingdom Will on this earth; as it pertains to the Gates of Hell, we are to storm the gates in our communities. And pursue the spoils of war, the souls in the Valley of Decision, binding and casting out evil spirits by ushering in the fire of the Holy Spirit through prayer, fasting, and worship.
Deliverance is something that should happen with an individual’s local church, with the afflicted person’s pastor, and spiritual mentors. But many, most, in the American Church deny the validity and power of darkness. Ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away.
The ENTIRE Gospel
Mark 16:15-18 (NASB) And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 The one who has believed and has been baptized will be saved; but the one who has not believed will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
I heard a preacher say it like this, “We have got to start preaching the other half of the Gospel.” I would say most churches are committed to Preaching the first half of the Gospel, Water Baptism, and making disciples. But that is only half of the gospel. What about the other half? Mark 16:17 tells us that signs will follow those who believe. Not might follow, but emphatically will follow. Unfortunately, the American church has fallen into compromise, only preaching the comfortable scriptures. Casting out Demons, Speaking in Tongues, Divine Protection, Laying Hands on the Sick, and seeing them recover by the Mighty Name of Jesus are uncomfortable topics that get little to no time behind most pulpits. But it is a significant part of the Gospel of Christ.
Possession – Oppression Debate
The word possession we see in some Bible translations doesn’t rightfully describe how the realm of darkness gains influence over us. The Greek word translated as possessed means to gain influence. When we believe the lies of the enemy, those lies become a deception. As we continue to walk out this life believing the deception is real, the enemy progressively gains more influence in how we think. Eventually, we have a serious stronghold, a deep-seated pattern of thinking that controls our behavior based on the deception of darkness.
After the stronghold of deception grows in strength, demons move in. At this point, it is almost impossible to determine your thoughts and those of the demon(s). And action must be taken if the person is going to find freedom “In Christ.”
In my studies on the subject of deliverance, I have found all kinds of systems and steps, some almost seeming ritualistic. Personally, I like steps; it takes the necessity of hearing from the Lord out of the equation. But when it comes to deliverance and healing, Prophetic Gifts are essential parts of this ministry; we must partner with the Holy Spirit.
That being said, there are general steps, but as we are praying with folks who are demonically influenced, we must listen intently to the Holy Spirit. Because it is not by steps or rituals that freedom comes; it is by the Finger, the Power of God, that demons release and flee.
Luke 11:20 (NASB) But if I cast out the demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
-
We cast out demons in Jesus’ name.
-
Confess, Repent, Renounce sin, as well as sins (expressing utter contempt and detest), and command in Jesus Mighty Name.
-
-
We break soul ties, spoken curses, and generational curses.
-
Confess generational sin, soul ties, spoken curses, and break the curse in Jesus’ name.
-
-
We pulldown (dismantle) Strongholds.
-
A stronghold is a carefully constructed belief system based on a lie that controls our thoughts, conscious as well as sub-conscious thoughts; these thoughts affect our emotions, and in turn, our behavior adjusts to the belief system which is based on the lie(s) (deception) of the enemy.
-
Strongholds are not demolished; they are deconstructed by the process of renewing our minds.
-
Ephesians 6:10-12 (NASB) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength (power) of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
In Ephesians 6:12, we are called to take the shield of faith to withstand the enemy's fiery darts. Our Shield of Faith is understanding who we are “In Christ.” However, the Shield is of little assistance without the rest of the armor.
Where do we get our identity? Our biological fathers.
When our biological fathers aren’t in our lives, when they aren’t careful to raise their children in the Fear of the Lord, the orphan’s curse that we are all born with leads to overwhelming feelings of rejection and abandonment, resulting in demonization.
We have a lot to say later in this manual about the Bastards – Orphan Curse, the curse of fatherlessness.
Being Strong in the Lord, in the Power of His Might
Being strong in the Lord requires knowledge of the tactics and abilities of the enemy. Darkness has four ways of influencing the believer; each is dealt with under the authority given to us by Jesus the Christ.
-
Individual sin.
-
Sins committed against them.
-
Family–generational sin (generational curse).
-
Societal sin.
There is much to say about each of these, for now, know that you can be demonized by your persistent refusal to repent from the sins you commit; you can be born with a generational curse that gives you a predisposition towards a particular sin, the sins committed against you must be forgiven with the help of the Holy Spirit, and the sin that is committed in society can also demonically influence you as you come into agreement with the lies of the enemy.
Luke 4:18-19 (NASB) “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, 19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”
ROADBLOCKS TO DELIVERANCE
-
Unsaved
-
You cannot be delivered from who you are serving.
-
-
Unbroken Curses or Soul Ties
-
Generational Curse are REAL, very REAL. These curses can cause a person to actually be born demonized.
-
THE MOST POWERFUL DEMONS WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED ARE GENERATIONAL (BLOODLINE) DEMONS!
-
-
Sexual immorality has consequences. It is the only sin that affects us spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
-
Curses can come by way of parents, mentors, teachers, etc., speaking condemning words over you. You must verbally proclaim that you are coming out of agreement with the lies.
-
-
Unbelief
-
Faith is the currency in the Kingdom of God.
-
-
Unforgiveness
-
The leading cause of all demonization is a person’s unwillingness or not knowing how to forgive biblically.
-
-
Unwillingness to Repent
-
You cannot get free from the demons you persist to entertain.
-
The Spirit of Pharmakeia
In what we have experienced in dealing with those who have struggled with addiction, there is a trinity, three specific types of demonic influence, that seem to be the most prevalent and team up to bring torment to those influenced by demons: Addiction, Witchcraft, and Sexual Immorality.
Revelation 18:23b (ESV) or your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all nations were deceived by your sorcery.
-
Sorcery – pharmakeia
-
the use or the administering of drugs.
-
Poisoning.
-
sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it.
-
metaphor. the deceptions and seductions of idolatry.
-
We see in Revelations 18:23 that a great deception of the “Last Days” is the administering of drugs by the merchants (Big Pharma) to deceive the nations. Who is the deceiver? Satan is described as the Father of lies, subtle and crafty, appearing as an angel of light.
Working in the addiction ministry for 16 years now, the path to demonic oppression is easy to see. Most commonly, rejection, neglect, abuse, and abandonment from our biological parents, especially our fathers, open us up for the enemy to come in with his lies. Once the lies are believed, deception sets in, and like cancer, the deception grows. Biblically speaking, this is a Stronghold or Fortress—reference 2 Corinthians 10:3-5.
Typically, this spiritual, emotional, and physical abuse, neglect, rejection, and abandonment is generational, meaning that the person’s parents were also spiritually, emotionally, and physically abused, neglected, rejected, and abused by their parents. Looking at family histories, it is typically clear that this can go back for several generations.
Dealing with the VERY Root of All Other Curses – the Orphan’s Curse.
God is a God of order, meaning He has a detailed plan for our lives. And He created the earth for us (mankind) and the Family for Himself. And being a God of order and structure, He has a detailed plan for the family. And, if we follow His plan, blessings will follow us. If we follow our plans, curses will follow us. Because mankind has followed the leading of the adversary, things are out of order, and the curse that proceeds (comes before – the very root of all other curses) all other curses is the “Curse of the Orphan, bastard – fatherlessness.”
Every natural issue, all the issues we discussed, is birthed in the spiritual realm. All sickness, all disease, all abuse, all rejection, and all abandonment that we frequently hear of were birthed in the spiritual realm.
I often mention that all addiction, just about every issue we see here in the trenches, stems from the relationship between the Dad and the Child.
Orphaned –
-
Rejected emotionally, physically and spiritually…
-
Neglected emotionally, physically and spiritually…
-
Abused emotionally, physically and spiritually…
I’m in no way discounting the vital importance of the Mother/child relationship. However, children are genetically inclined to look to their fathers for their Identity, direction, and ultimate purpose.
How many young men follow in the footsteps of their fathers? My dad was a pastor; I am a pastor. This applies to everything from professions to bad habits, as we all very well know.
In Luke 3:38, we see Adam referred to as the Son of God. Prior to the first fall, God literally walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, face to face; they had intimate fellowship with “their Abba Father.” After they had sinned, Abba Father went to the Garden at the appointed time, but the guilt of their actions brought shame, and they hid. “Abba Father” knew what they had done, but He still went looking for His children.
When we fail to understand that we are His sons and His daughters, when we fail to fully comprehend His Mercy, His Agape Love, and His Grace, instead of showing up for our appointment with Abba Father, we will try and hide. This is why many of His children, our brothers and sisters “In Christ,” are hiding from the fellowship of a local church they so desperately need.
Romans 8:14-15 (NLT) For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call Him “Abba, Father.”
I believe that if Adam and Eve had shown up for their daily walk with the Lord and confessed their sin, things would have been different. But what did they do? Instead of running to Abba Father, they allowed guilt and shame to cause them to attempt to hide from God, who is everywhere at all times, possesses all natural and spiritual knowledge, and is all-powerful.
When we, as the sons and the daughters of Abba Father, mess up, we must not allow our guilt that leads to repentance to become shame that shoves us into isolation; we need to run to Abba Father, allowing the light and the fire of a Holy God to cleanse and purge our conscious from the dead works that are the result of our sin.
The Orphan (abandoned, rejected, neglected, abused) spirit was released and passed down to every person born physically after the fall of Adam and Eve.
When we get saved, we retain most of our old mindset. The enemy works so diligently to keep the Babe In Christ from growing in their understanding that we must move from Fearful Slaves to Sons and Daughters. The enemy fights hard to keep our understanding limited to the fact that we are saved from the Wrath of God, but that’s not all there is. Our Fear of Hell and fear of the Lord God Almighty must transition to Reverence as we learn our Identity In Christ as His beloved Sons and Daughters of Abba Father.
Just like the Children of Israel in the wilderness, if we aren’t diligent in following through with the spiritual disciplines, we will revert back to a bondage mindset.
Every believer is born with the Orphan Curse. If we had godly fathers, who were the priests, prophets, providers, and protectors of the home, who lived a life of holiness, and who passionately sought God first, the Orphan Spirit is typically easily conquered.
But, for those raised without their biological fathers, those rejected, abandoned, neglected, and abused by their biological fathers, the Curse of the Orphan is powerful; the stronghold is entrenched deep within the very recesses of their being. The Strongholds are indwelled with unclean spirits of anger, rage, bitterness, murder, suicide, addiction, and rejection, and deliverance is needed. The unclean Spirits must be evicted and the stronghold methodically dismantled through the power of the Holy Spirit and through our commitment to spiritual disciplines.
With the orphan spirit comes one of two strongholds. Everyone who struggles with an orphan spirit will either be like the prodigal son and live a life of sin or, like his brother, living a life of rigid religious practices trying to earn his father’s acceptance and His love. Reference – Luke 15:11-32
The very aim of darkness is and always has been to separate you from God. For believers, darkness cleverly seeks to isolate you from your spiritual family, a local church by way of subtle suggestions that, if believed, will turn into a full-blown identity crisis.
When we grow up without our natural father being committed to his position as the Priest, representing his family to God, the Prophet, representing God to his family, the provider, and the protector, spiritual, emotional, and physical protector, the enemy has its entry point.
And then darkness builds strongholds of Abandonment, Rejection, Abuse, and Neglect.
When Adam sinned, mankind became separated from God the Father. Adam and Eve became orphans. Their sin totally isolated them from their intimacy with Abba Father, and He became the Lord God Almighty, the God to be feared.
One of the best examples of the orphan spirit is when Jesus was dying on the cross. He said seven different things on the cross, but the one statement that always stood out to me was when He said, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” If you read the Gospels, you will see that Jesus always referred to God as His Father. For this brief time, Jesus was separated from His Father; essentially, He was orphaned. He became an orphan briefly so we could be “Abba Father’s” Sons and Daughters.
We must realize that when we are saved, only our spirits are saved—our minds, how we view life, how we perceive relationships, our ability to forgive, and how we process pain and rejection are still based on the old us and the only way we will walk in the Freedom Abba Father has for us is by submitting to the Work of the Holy Spirit. Like the Children of Israel in the wilderness, we still have the slave mentality.
Characteristics of those who are dealing with an Orphan Spirit.
-
Orphans are jealous and envious of the success of others.
-
Sons and daughters are actually committed to the success of others in the Kingdom of God.
-
-
Orphan spirits love pity parties.
-
Sons and Daughters display joy in the many trials we will face.
-
The Sons and Daughters of “Abba Father” understand the power of their words, and they never complain; they confess but NEVER Complain.
-
-
The orphan spirit serves God to earn the Father’s Love.
-
Sons and daughters serve God out of a sense of divine acceptance.
-
If you are continually comparing what you do in the Kingdom to what others around you do, this is Religion, an idea that your works are somehow more powerful, more effective than the Blood of Jesus “THE” Christ!
-
-
Orphans don’t know how to be served.
-
They say that I have value as long as I am the one serving.
-
Sons and daughters accept being served, understanding that Jesus Serves us today through His Bride (the Church).
-
-
The orphan spirit can cause you to feel that you are too good to do the little things and that you should be on the platform.
-
Overcompensating for insecurities instills grandiose ideas of yourself.
-
Jesus came to serve.
-
-
The orphan spirit causes you to be overly sensitive and uncorrectable.
-
The orphan spirit causes you to blow up relationships out of the fear of being rejected.
-
The orphan spirit causes you to hide your own limitations.
-
The orphan spirit causes you to perceive the strengths of others as competition.
-
The orphan spirit causes you to secretly take satisfaction in the weaknesses and failures of others.
-
The orphan spirit causes you to seek the attention of those in authority.
-
The orphan spirit causes you to over-obligate yourself.
-
The orphan spirit causes you to engage in people-pleasing behavior.
-
Orphans live from fear. Fear has two twins: unrepented Guilt, that results in Shame.
-
Guilt from the past, shame for today. Shame is based on deception; the devil has convinced you that you are not who God says you are.
-
Jesus came to Serve, and that has in NO WAY Changed!
Why would the King of Kings and Lord of Lords serve me? Jesus said that He came to serve, not to be served – that didn’t change at Calvary! The Lord God Almighty, like a Good Father, desires to serve us, desires to serve you – the broken you, the sinful you, the rebellious you, the addict, junkie, dope shooting you. Get this in your head, and hold on to it. ABBA Father Loves you and desperately wants to serve, heal, and restore you!
We are not pawns to accomplish the Will of God; we are sons and daughters created “In Him” to experience His love. We pray, “God use me, use me, use me, and He is like no, I'm nothing like any of your ex-boyfriends, ex-girlfriends. I'm not anything like any of the people you've encountered. God has no desire to use you!
PROPHETIC Word – The Lord Says…
“I passionately desire intimacy with my children. I desire them to not serve out of duty, to not give out of obligation, but to give and serve out of appreciation, out of real intimacy.”
I didn't really understand Abba Father’s desire to serve me until I had my own kids; I don't love my kids because they do the dishes; I don't love my kids because they come to church and show up for the workday. I love my kids because they're my kids, my adopted kids, my step kids, and my spiritual kids.
Jeremiah 31:3 (NLT) Long ago, the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love, I have drawn you to myself.
John 14:15-18 (NLT) “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn’t looking for Him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know Him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.
Ephesians 1:5 (NLT) God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
The Father’s Invitation
John 1:10-13 (NLT) He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. 11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. 12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right (POWER – Grace) to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.
Here is the good news of the Gospel: the Father freely receives us as His beloved children!
Ten Sources of Curses/Gateways/Doors that Lead to Demonization
Committing Direct Willful Sin
-
Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
-
James 1:14-15 (KJV) But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
-
Galatians 5:19-21 (AMP) Now the practices of the sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies], 21 envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Practices of the Occult
Ouija board, crystals, burning sage, horoscopes, obsession with horror movies, TV shows, occultic items in the home, Chinese Zodiac, demonic board and card games, tarot cards, new age crystals, occultic anime shows, and books, obsession with vampires, werewolves, and shapeshifters, and obsession with aliens will all lead to a person's demonization.
-
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 (NLT) “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nation’s living there. 10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. It is because the other nations have done these detestable things that the Lord your God will drive them out ahead of you. 13 But you must be blameless before the Lord your God. 14 The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things.”
-
Revelation 21:8 (NLT) “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Inheritance from Previous Generations
-
Exodus 20:5 (NKJV) You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me.
-
What doors were opened generationally?
-
What sins did your parents, all the way to great-great grandparents, struggle with?
-
Addiction, Adultery, Fornication, Laziness, Spirit of Poverty, Anxiety, Fear, Depression, Anger, Rage, Murder – the spirit of heaviness, are all very common Generational Curses we see folks struggling with.
-
Unforgiveness
-
Matthew 6:14-15 (NLT) “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
-
Proverbs 18:20-21 (NASB) With the fruit of a person’s mouth, his stomach will be satisfied; He will be satisfied with the product of his lips. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
-
Forgiveness without the help of the Holy Spirit isn’t possible. Our Words have the power to cultivate God’s Word in our lives, making forgiving the unforgivable possible.
-
Forgiveness applies to oneself as well as others. Not accepting the forgiveness of Christ is simply saying that His Blood is insufficient to wash your sins away.
-
Unforgiveness is by far the leading cause of demonization.
-
Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
-
STOP saying you can’t forgive them or yourself; when you do this, you are coming into agreement with the lies of the enemy.
-
If you still need an apology, you probably haven’t truly forgiven the person who hurt, betrayed, abandoned, or neglected you!
-
If the hurt they caused you consumes your thoughts, you need to continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to help you forgive them so that you can start the healing process.
-
There is power in our words, the actual power of life and of death. We declare forgiveness, inviting the Holy Spirit to come in and empower our words to cleanse us from the effects of unforgiveness.
-
You will need to be willing to pray for the Lord to Save, Deliver, and Heal them. For the Lord to bless and have mercy on them. As you pray, the Lord will begin to change your heart.
Trauma, Abuse, Rejection, Neglect, Abandonment
-
Ezekiel 18:4
-
Wounds from trauma are open doors for demons.
-
When we don’t deal with the sins committed against us according to the Word of God, anger, bitterness, anxiety, fear, and spirits of heaviness slowly take over, leading us deeper and deeper into hopelessness.
-
We are not responsible for the sins that people commit against us. However, we are responsible to forgive them.
False Religions
-
1 Timothy 4:1-2 (AMP) But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times, some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 [misled] by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared as with a branding iron [leaving them incapable of ethical functioning].
-
1 John 4:3 (NLT) But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and, indeed, is already here.
-
False religions such as Catholicism, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Native American Religions, and the like are all simply demon worship.
-
Many of the false religions seem Satan comes as an angel of light.
-
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (NLT) These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end, they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.

Ungodly Soul Ties
-
Church Leadership, Abusive Parents, Denominational, Ungodly Sexual Relationships, and gang Involvement can form not only an emotional attachment but a spiritual connection that can only be broken by the Holy Spirit.
-
1 Samuel 18:1-3 (ESV) As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 2 And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father's house. 3 Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul.
-
1 Corinthians 6:15-16 (ESV) Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.”
-
Matthew 22:37 (ESV) And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
-
We are Spiritual Beings that have a soul, that live in a body. Our Souls are the seat of our mind, will, and emotions. All attacks and all attachments from the enemy are rooted in our souls (mind, will, and emotions).
Spoken Words
-
Matthew 5:33-37 (NLT) “You have also heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the Lord.’ 34 But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, ‘By heaven!’ because heaven is God’s throne. 35 And do not say, ‘By the earth!’ because the earth is his footstool. And do not say, ‘By Jerusalem!’ for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. 36 Do not even say, ‘By my head!’ for you can’t turn one hair white or black. 37 Just say a simple, ‘Yes, I will,’ or ‘No, I won’t.’ Anything beyond this is from the evil one.

Fears and Phobias
-
2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love, and self-discipline.
-
1 John 4:18 (NASB) There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

A PRAYER OF AUTHORITY
In the mighty name of Jesus, I come against every demonic spirit that is in resistance and rebellion to the Lord’s will for our (my) freedom. I command every demon, every unclean spirit, to be bound and rendered powerless. Any spirit trying to withstand, distract, ridicule, cast doubt, or hinder our (my) freedom in Christ must obey the authority of the name of Jesus and leave me immediately. Satan, we resist you in Jesus’ mighty name and are closing any doors that I or my ancestors may have opened to you and your demons. We renounce Satan and all his demons; we declare them to be our enemies and want them out of our lives completely. We are now claiming deliverance from any and all evil spirits that may be in us or around us. Once and for all, I close the door in my life to all occult practices and all sin and command all connected and related spirits to leave now, in the MIGHTY name of Jesus Christ, AMEN.

Prayer is the answer to all our issues. Through prayer, we give the Lord permission to fight for us; it's not about informing God; it’s about involving Him.
